What is art therapy?
Art therapy is a form of psychotherapy that uses art in the session to help the client get out of their head and into their heart. And it's not just for artists! Art therapy is for anyone who has a desire to harness the power of creativity on their journey towards healing.
Who is art therapy for?
Art therapy is for adults, adolescents, and children (anyone!) who is experiencing mental health concerns, grief, trauma, relationship difficulties, life changes, and more.
What happens in an art therapy session?
Often, the session will involve a combination of talking and art-making. As your therapist, I will ask you what your comfort level is with art and will guide you with prompts and encouragement. Sometimes we make art the whole time, sometimes we just talk. There is no right or wrong way to do art therapy.
My approach to therapy is compassion-focused and client-centered. I understand the impacts that trauma has on the therapeutic process. I work with clients at their own pace, with gentle guidance and in a way that supports their autonomy and uniqueness.
What about the price and insurance coverage?
My rate for a 50-minute art therapy session is $135 + HST. I do have some spots available for sliding scale. Please contact me to inquire.
To find out if you are covered, contact your insurance provider and ask if they cover psychotherapy. If so, you will be able to submit your receipt for reimbursement after your payment.
